Morongo Valley, a great little town on Route 62, smack dab in the middle of the Sand to Snow National Monument.

If you're heading to Joshua Tree National Park, Route 62 takes you right through Morongo Valley, the first town up 62 in the hi-desert.  It's a small, rural community with a long history, and now it's surrounded - literally - by the Sand to Snow National Monument.  Don't miss Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, or a stop at Cactus Mart where you can get great Indian tacos on Saturdays, and you can still dig your own - cactus, that is.
